Allen Porterie (he/they) is an actor, writer, and producer whose practice lives at the intersections of Black historical stewardship, liberation as praxis, and radical and ongoing becoming. Their work, both onstage and behind the scenes, centers care, collaboration, and the creation of spaces where artists can do their best work. Broadway (Company Management): Death Becomes Her, Gypsy. Artistic Statement

My artistic practice is rooted in a question:

What becomes possible when we imagine beyond the worlds we have inherited?

As an actor, writer, and producer, I use performance to investigate Black life, queer life, history, memory, desire, and the unfinished work of becoming. I am interested in the stories we inherit, the histories we choose to carry, and the futures we dare to imagine. My work treats liberation not as a distant destination, but as an ongoing practice that we embody through relationship, care, collaboration, and the radical act of imagining otherwise.

I am drawn to artists and stories that complicate what we think we know. I crave stories that hold tenderness alongside contradiction, pleasure alongside grief, and history alongside possibility. Whether I am performing, writing, producing, or building the conditions for other artists to create, I am interested in performance as a site of mirroring. Where we are invited to see ourselves more clearly, question the structures that shape our lives, and practice becoming something new.

At the center of my work is a commitment to Black historical stewardship and futurity. I honor who and what have been carried forward while refusing to accept the present as inevitable. I want to make work that does more than represent a possible future. I want to participate in rehearsing one.
